Portrait of a Child (Marie Moll)
1902-1904
Gustav Klimt captures a young girl, Marie Moll, in this delicate portrait from around 1902. She wears a large, fluffy white bonnet that frames her face, with dark curls peeking out from underneath. The soft, sketchy lines give her a dreamy, almost ethereal look, typical of Klimt's early work before he fully embraced his famous golden phase. You can even see the watermark of the paper manufacturer at the top, a little ghost of the artwork's history! It's a charming glimpse into the life of a child in turn-of-the-century Vienna.
