In Bed
1897 - 1898
Toulouse-Lautrec captures a rare, quiet moment here, showing a woman lounging in bed with a small, alert dog perched on her lap. Unlike his flashy cabaret posters, this piece feels incredibly intimate, likely depicting one of the women from Paris's brothels whom he befriended and lived among. The loose, scratchy lines make it feel like we're peeking into a secret, lazy morning routine, far away from the noise of the Moulin Rouge.
