雄鶏
1899
Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec captures a barnyard standoff in this 1899 piece titled 'Coqs' (French for roosters). A proudly strutting rooster dominates the foreground, craning its neck to challenge a dark, silhouetted rival perched high on a wall in the distance. While the artist is best known for his electric cabaret posters, this delicate black-and-white composition showcases his mastery of line and movement. Created just two years before his death, it features his signature monogram in the top corner, proving he could find drama in a chicken coop just as easily as in a Parisian nightclub.
