바람처럼 날 수 있는 흰 암말
1917
Ivan Bilibin brings Russian folklore to life with his signature graphic style, blending flat colors and bold outlines that look almost like stained glass or woodcuts. Here, a dashing couple clings to each other atop a galloping white mare, fleeing through a dense, stylized forest toward a distant, onion-domed castle. The scene is framed by an intricate border of climbing flowers, a hallmark of Bilibin's work that turns the illustration into a decorative object itself. This piece captures the magical urgency of a fairy tale escape, where horses don't just run—they fly like the wind.
