カシュチェイ
1917
Riding a dark steed through a stylized forest, the immortal villain Kastchey brandishes a curved sword against a pastel sunset. Ivan Bilibin, a master of Russian book illustration, captures the menacing energy of this folklore antagonist—who famously hid his soul inside a needle within an egg—with his signature style. Notice the intricate decorative borders inspired by traditional woodcuts and embroidery, blending Art Nouveau elegance with deep Slavic roots. Bilibin's distinct graphic style defined how generations of Russians visualized their fairy tales, turning this terrifying sorcerer into an icon of folk art.
