The Knights of Christ and The Just Judges
Painted by Jan van Eyck, this stunning section of the Ghent Altarpiece depicts a grand procession of holy figures riding toward salvation. On the right, armored knights bearing red-crossed flags represent the spiritual army of Christ, their metal armor gleaming with incredible detail. To the left of the central column, a solemn group of judges and rulers in rich robes follows, known as the 'Just Judges.' But there's a massive plot twist: the original left panel was stolen in a daring 1934 heist and never recovered! The version seen here is likely a copy made to complete the masterpiece, making this one of art history's greatest unsolved mysteries.
