A Young Boy With a Dog
Jean-Baptiste Greuze captures a delightfully messy moment of affection here. A rosy-cheeked, blonde boy in a red shirt is being enthusiastically licked on the nose by a large brown dog. The boy's wide-eyed expression is a perfect mix of surprise and acceptance as he wraps his arms around the dog's neck, his white scarf fluttering. Greuze, famous for his sentimental genre scenes that emphasized emotion and moral virtue, uses loose, energetic brushstrokes to make this interaction feel spontaneous and alive, highlighting the pure bond between childhood innocence and animal loyalty.
