Girl Reading A Letter By An Open Window
Johannes Vermeer captures a quiet, intimate moment as a young woman stands bathed in soft morning light, completely absorbed in reading a letter by an open window. The heavy green curtain on the right acts like a theatrical stage drape, pulling the viewer into her private world of secrets and anticipation. For centuries, viewers thought the wall behind her was blank, but recent X-rays revealed Vermeer originally painted a cupid on the wall, adding a whole new layer of romantic meaning to her mysterious correspondence!
