The Rest on the Flight into Egypt

Imagine the ultimate road trip stop: the Holy Family taking a breather in the wilderness during their flight to Egypt. Mary, wrapped in sweeping blue and red fabrics, holds baby Jesus close as he leans in for a sweet kiss, while a mischievous little angel with tiny wings tries to join the hug. Joseph keeps a watchful eye from the background, ensuring the family's safety near their resting donkey. Poussin captures this quiet, intimate moment with the dramatic lighting and emotional depth typical of the Baroque era, turning a biblical escape into a scene of pure tenderness.
