Bauhaus Stairway', 'zh-CN
1931 - 1932
Oskar Schlemmer painted this geometric tribute to the Bauhaus school just before it was forced to close by the Nazis. The figures climbing the sweeping blue staircase look more like stylized mannequins than real people, showcasing Schlemmer's famous obsession with the human form as a mechanical object in space. Interestingly, he painted this over an earlier 1929 version to get the composition just right. The tall figure in black at the bottom right is widely believed to be Walter Gropius, the school's founder, guiding the students upward.
