Groep van vier met diagonaal profiel
1942
Oskar Schlemmer, famous for his crisp, geometric Bauhaus figures, takes a much looser, almost frantic approach in this late work from 1942. Instead of robotic humans, we see a cluster of ghostly, elongated heads floating in a murky space of olive greens and burnt oranges. The large diagonal profile dominates the composition, looking like a mechanical yet organic form, perhaps reflecting the artist's isolation during the final years of World War II. It feels like a dream sequence where human identity is dissolving into pure shape and texture.
