Six Heads Frieze', 'zh-CN
1935
Oskar Schlemmer, the Bauhaus master famous for turning dancers into geometric robots, takes a much quieter, almost melancholic approach in this 1935 piece. Instead of his usual bright, mechanical figures, six sculptural heads float in a dark, murky sea of blue-grey strokes. They look like classical busts or mannequins turned in every direction—profile, back, and front—as if the artist is cataloging the human form from all angles. Created after the Nazis dismissed him and labeled his modern style 'degenerate,' this frieze feels like a stubborn study of humanity persisting in the shadows.
