Sorcières de la forêt
1938
Paul Klee's 'Forest Witches' looks like a page torn straight from a dark, ancient fairy tale. Thick, wobbly black lines trap strange, animal-like figures in a maze of earthy browns and sudden, vibrant flashes of pink. Created late in his life after fleeing Nazi Germany, Klee's style shifted toward these primitive, almost childlike scribbles that hide a surprisingly eerie mood. It is a brilliant example of Expressionism, proving that simple shapes and bold outlines can conjure a deeply spooky, magical world.
