Hans Baldung
Kleurrijke meester Duitse renaissance
Hans Baldung, bijgenaamd Hans Baldung Grien (een vroege bijnaam vanwege zijn voorliefde voor de kleur groen), was een kunstenaar in schilderkunst en prentkunst, graveur, tekenaar en glazenier, die werd beschouwd als de meest getalenteerde leerling van Albrecht Dürer, wiens kunst behoort tot zowel de Duitse renaissance als het maniërisme. Gedurende zijn leven ontwikkelde hij een kenmerkende stijl, vol kleur, expressie en verbeelding. Zijn talenten waren gevarieerd en hij produceerde een groot en uitgebreid scala aan werken, waaronder portretten, houtsneden, tekeningen, wandtapijten, altaarstukken, glas-in-loodramen, allegorieën en mythologische motieven.
