Son of Righteousness

c. 1500

Dürer’s 'Son of Righteousness' features a powerful, haloed figure straddling a majestic lion, brandishing a sword and holding the scales of justice. The radiating lines around the head suggest divine light, blending the imagery of Christ with the 'Sun of Righteousness' from the Book of Malachi. Look closely at the bottom center to find Dürer’s famous 'AD' monogram, a stamp of quality from the Northern Renaissance master who revolutionized printmaking.
