Sleeping Lion
Antoine-Louis Barye is famous for fierce bronze sculptures of animals fighting, so this peaceful 'Lion Endormi' offers a rare, quiet moment from the master of animal art. The lion rests heavily in a rugged landscape, its muscular form captured with the anatomical precision Barye gained from dissecting beasts at the Paris zoo. The grainy, atmospheric texture of the sky and ground evokes the wild, untamed spirit of the Romantic movement, proving that even a sleeping predator commands the scene.
