Mont Sainte-Victoire
1887
Paul Cézanne was absolutely obsessed with this specific mountain near his home in southern France, painting it over 60 times! You can see his signature Post-Impressionist style here, where he breaks the landscape down into geometric blocks of color rather than smooth, realistic details. The vibrant greens of the foreground clash beautifully with the hazy, purple-pink hues of the distant peak, creating a sense of vibrating energy. He basically paved the way for Cubism by showing us that a landscape is really just a collection of shapes and colors waiting to be rearranged.
