Ink Dragon Scroll 34.3x50
Chen Rong, a 13th-century Song Dynasty official, was so famous for his dragon paintings that later artists just copied his style for centuries. In this moody scene, a serpentine dragon writhes through dark, stormy clouds, its form barely distinguishable from the ink wash—a technique meant to capture the creature's spiritual energy rather than just its looks. The long section of text on the right is a colophon, essentially an ancient guestbook where scholars and collectors added their poems and seals over the years.
