Poplars in the Sun by Claude Monet, 1891

Look at those impossibly tall trees stretching up into a brilliant, cloud-dappled sky, their reflections shimmering in the water below! Monet was so obsessed with capturing the shifting light on these poplars along the Epte River that he actually bought the trees from a local lumberjack just to stop them from being chopped down before he could finish his series. The loose, vibrant brushstrokes make the whole scene dance, perfectly capturing a fleeting summer moment in classic Impressionist style and showing why he is the master of light.
