Statue of the River God Tiber by Cornelis Pronk

Here we see the mighty River God Tiber reclining in classical grandeur, cradling a cornucopia overflowing with fruit as a symbol of abundance. At his feet, a tender and famous scene unfolds: the legendary twins Romulus and Remus are being nursed by the she-wolf, a direct nod to the wild founding myth of Rome. The Dutch artist Cornelis Pronk likely sketched this after an ancient Roman statue, translating heavy marble muscle into delicate red lines that make the mythological figure feel almost alive and breathing.
