Camaret. The Pointe du Toulinguet
1873
Eugène Boudin, the self-taught 'King of Skies,' captures the breezy, rugged coastline of Brittany in this vibrant 1873 seascape. You can almost feel the salt spray as small fishing boats bob in the turquoise waters below the grassy, rocky headland of Pointe du Toulinguet. Boudin was a master of painting outdoors and actually mentored a young Claude Monet, teaching him to observe the sky and light just like this. His loose, quick brushstrokes perfectly capture a fleeting moment of coastal life, paving the way for the Impressionist movement.
