Französische Riviera
Fausto Zonaro is best known for his incredibly detailed paintings of Ottoman life, but here he turns his gaze to the sparkling Mediterranean coast. The thick, textured brushstrokes make the deep blue water look like it's actually rippling in the breeze, creating a mesmerizing sense of movement. You can almost feel the salt air as sailboats drift past a hazy, sun-drenched shoreline in the distance. This piece proves he was a master of capturing light and atmosphere long before he became the official court painter for the Ottoman Sultan.
