Father will shoot them off
1908
Frank Nankivell turns the chaotic 1908 Democratic National Convention into a literal explosion of fireworks for this Puck magazine cover. The central figure, three-time presidential candidate William Jennings Bryan, stands amidst a barrage of sparklers labeled with political jargon like 'Nomination,' 'Platform,' and 'Resolutions,' looking like a ringmaster of chaos. It's a witty visual pun on the Fourth of July, suggesting that political campaigning is just as loud and explosive as fireworks. Other politicians lurk in the background, seemingly unsure if they should light the fuse or run for cover.
