Bijutsukai Pl.2
1901
Furuya Kōrin sends a chaotic flock of black birds darting across a serene sky of lavender, peach, and pale blue stripes. Created for the 1901 art magazine *Bijutsukai*, this piece highlights the Rinpa tradition of bold, stylized nature motifs. Faint, ghostly pine trees drift in the margins outside the central frame, adding a layer of depth to the composition. It’s a beautiful example of how Japanese artists blended classic aesthetics with a graphic, almost modern sensibility at the turn of the century.
