Snowy Stream on satin 27x38
Lan Ying, a celebrated painter from the late Ming dynasty, creates a cozy winter scene where snow clings to the gnarled branches of trees and the eaves of elegant pavilions. A tiny boat drifts on the left, emphasizing the vastness of the golden background, while bursts of red foliage add a surprising pop of warmth to the chilly landscape. Painted on silk, this piece showcases his skill in blending detailed architecture with natural beauty, likely depicting a poetic retreat for a scholar.
