Copy of Wei Yan's Herding Scroll - Main Painting 2
Li Gonglin, a Song Dynasty master, created this massive scroll as a loving tribute to the Tang dynasty painter Wei Yan. Instead of a simple copy, Li reimagined a sprawling landscape teeming with over a thousand horses and their herders. If you look closely, you'll see the animals doing everything from grazing peacefully to rolling in the dust, showcasing Li's incredible attention to detail. This masterpiece is a prime example of his famous 'white line' drawing style, which relies on pure, expressive brushstrokes rather than heavy coloring to bring the scene to life.
