Scroll of Spirits Descending on Mount Hua - Main Painting 3
Li Gonglin, the Song Dynasty master of 'baimiao' (plain line drawing), proves you don't need color to create a masterpiece. This scroll depicts a divine procession descending from Mount Hua, the Western Peak of China. Notice the swirling clouds beneath the horses on the right? That's the artist's clever way of showing these are celestial beings, not just regular travelers! A tiny dog trotting in the middle adds a whimsical touch to this serious spiritual parade, showcasing Li's incredible ability to capture movement with just delicate ink lines.
