Nine Elders of Shang Scroll (Full Image) Paper 695x31 National Palace Museum Taipei
Imagine unrolling a scroll nearly 7 meters long to discover a serene gathering of ancient scholars in the mountains! This masterpiece is attributed to Li Gonglin, a Song Dynasty superstar artist also known as 'Longmian'—a name you can see in the bold calligraphy on the far right. Famous for his precise 'white line' drawing style, Li here uses delicate ink washes to depict twisted pine trees, rugged rocks, and the 'Nine Elders' enjoying a peaceful retreat. It’s like an ancient VIP party, but with way more nature and less music. Today, this epic handscroll rests in the National Palace Museum in Taipei.
