利比亚女先知习作
ca. 1510-11
Michelangelo was obsessed with anatomy, and this sketch proves it. He's studying the back of a incredibly muscular man—yes, a man—even though this is a study for the Libyan Sibyl, a female prophet on the Sistine Chapel ceiling. He used red chalk to capture every rippling muscle and tendon, showing his intense process of getting the pose just right. You can see him working out the details with floating sketches of hands, feet, and a face in the margins, preparing to paint this figure 60 feet in the air.
