Untitled
circa 1934
Paul Klee famously described drawing as 'taking a line for a walk,' and this delicate 1934 sketch captures that whimsical journey perfectly. Faint, wavy horizontal lines ripple across the entire page like wind blowing over a barren landscape, framing a curly, cloud-like tree on the right and sharp, zigzagging shapes on the left that resemble abstract mountains. Created during a turbulent time when Klee had fled Nazi Germany for Switzerland, the pale washes of yellow and brown give the scene a fragile, dreamlike quality. It feels less like a realistic view and more like a memory fading into the texture of the paper itself.
