The Expulsion from Eden by Albrecht Altdorfer, c. 1515

Here we see the ultimate bad day for humanity's first couple! An angel, looking more like a fierce Renaissance soldier than a gentle cherub, brandishes a massive sword to chase Adam and Eve out of Paradise. Notice how Eve is already modestly covering herself with leaves while Adam looks back in sheer shock—Altdorfer captures the exact moment of divine eviction with incredible, swirling energy. This piece is a classic example of the German Renaissance, specifically from the Danube School, a group of artists who loved dramatic scenes and intense emotion over perfect Italian proportions.
