Nine Dragons Scroll - Painting Core 7
Chen Rong, a Song Dynasty official, was so famous for his dragon paintings that a Chinese proverb says 'If you want to paint a dragon, look to Chen Rong.' This detail from his masterpiece 'Nine Dragons Scroll' shows a fierce dragon emerging from swirling, ink-washed waves and misty clouds, with dynamic brushstrokes making the creature look like it's actually moving through a storm. Painted in the 13th century, this scroll is one of the few surviving dragon paintings from that era and is now a treasured piece at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.
