Architectural Capriccio
François de Nomé, a French expat in Naples known as Monsù Desiderio, loved painting imaginary cities that looked like they were facing the apocalypse. In this moody 'capriccio,' crumbling towers and broken arches loom like ghosts against a deep, stormy blue sky. The heavy cracks across the surface show just how old this dramatic vision is, adding to the feeling of decay. It’s a classic Baroque fantasy, mixing real ruins with wild imagination to create a scene that feels both romantic and spooky.
