Nymph of the Luo River Scroll (Volume 2) - Colophon - Qianlong
This scroll features a dense, elegant block of Chinese calligraphy, serving as a colophon (commentary) by the Qianlong Emperor on the famous 'Ode to the Goddess of the Luo River.' While the original artwork is attributed to the ancient master Gu Kaizhi, this section shows the Emperor's own handwriting and his massive red imperial seals. Qianlong was notorious for stamping his mark all over the treasures he collected—essentially 'graffitiing' masterpieces to show his appreciation. It’s a fascinating mix of scholarly critique and royal ego, preserved on aged paper.
