Admonitions Scroll - Colophon 2 - Zhao Ji by Gu Kaizi

Think of this as an ancient self-help guide for royalty! This scroll section features the concluding verses of the *Admonitions of the Instructress to the Court Ladies*, a masterpiece originally conceived by the legendary painter Gu Kaizhi to teach imperial women proper behavior. The elegant calligraphy—attributed here to the artist-emperor Zhao Ji (Emperor Huizong)—warns that 'beauty attracts jealousy' and advises humility in love. The red stamps on the left are imperial collector seals, essentially 'likes' from later emperors like Qianlong who were obsessed with this work and stamped their approval all over it.
