Scroll of Spirits Descending on Mount Hua - Main Painting 1 by Li Gonglin

Li Gonglin, a Song Dynasty master, essentially perfected the 'baimiao' style seen here—relying purely on the rhythm of ink lines rather than color to create depth and movement. This section of the scroll depicts a hunting procession, likely the entourage of the deity of Mount Hua (the Western Peak), complete with archers on horseback, a falconer, and an eager greyhound. The numerous red collector seals on the right side tell a story of their own, proving this piece was cherished by emperors, likely including the famous art-lover Qianlong.
