Vincent van Gogh

1888

Weizenstapel by Vincent van Gogh, 1888

Van Gogh captured the rugged beauty of rural life in 1888 using his trusty reed pen and vibrant watercolors. Notice how the massive, golden haystacks dominate the foreground, drawn with thousands of energetic, swirling strokes that make the straw look almost alive and ready to burst. In the background, peasants bend over their work under a brilliant blue sky, while a few chickens peck around the base of the stacks. It's a fantastic glimpse into his Post-Impressionist obsession with capturing the raw, pulsing energy of the countryside.
